Germany is set to welcome the CO2 Performance Ladder as a pivotal tool for advancing sustainable procurement and carbon reduction efforts. Building on the successful implementations in the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, France and the UK, the Ladder is now being rolled out in Germany.
The Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP) will lead the national coordination of the CO2 Performance Ladder, driving its adoption and integration across the country.
Environmental sustainability is critical, yet public procurers in Germany face challenges in translating sustainability goals into practical actions. This underscores the need for tools that support informed decision-making in the procurement process.
Cristina Fedato, Head of Sustainable Infrastructure, Products and Services at CSCP emphasizes the organization's motivation:
“The CO2 Performance Ladder enables public authorities to leverage their purchasing power to support suppliers in reducing emissions, while also encouraging them to improve their business sustainability strategies and management. By demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability, public authorities can enhance their reputation, build public trust, and contribute to the overall achievement of public climate goals.”
With the proven success of the CO2 Performance Ladder and the expertise of CSCP, we aim to enhance sustainable public procurement practices in Germany and support organizations in their efforts to achieve environmental goals. The aim is to set up the first CO2 Performance Ladder tender project in Germany.
